Emergency agency honors volunteers

Four volunteers received national Point of Light Awards at the Douglas County Emergency Management Volunteer Recognition Oct. 30 at the Lawrence Douglas County Health Department.

The volunteers were nominated for Daily Point of Light Awards by Douglas County Emergency Management.

The award program was reinstated by the Points of Light Foundation, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization.

The foundation, funded by the Knights of Columbus, is dedicated to engaging more people and resources in volunteer service to help solve serious social problems.

Volunteers honored were: Debbie Liddel, for public education efforts and technical support in the training cadre of her fellow Auxiliary Communications Team members; Wayne Deaver, for his commitment to the training and education of not only his fellow Skywarn volunteers but of the community abroad; Marvin Wiedeman, for more than 30 years of volunteerism and continued dedication to the service of Douglas County citizens; and Kate Dinneen, for volunteer hours dedicated to the advancement of Douglas County Community Emergency Response Team and Skywarn in service of Douglas County citizens.
