The Free State girls basketball team defeated Shawnee Mission East, 42-37, on Friday night at home.

Chantay Caron led the Firebirds with 19 points.

The victory improves Free State’s record to 4-4. Shawnee Mission East is now 8-2.

The Free State boys team, however, didn’t fare as well. Shawnee Mission East defeated the Firebirds, 66-55.

Free State trailed by 27 points early in the fourth quarter, but rallied to score 30 points.

It was the eighth straight loss for the Firebirds (1-8).

The Lancers improved to 6-2.
