Faith restored

To the editor:

The Jan. 4 article “Young lobbyist takes case to city” by Chad Lawhorn was almost stunning in its impact on persons of my age group (older). Perceptions of the younger generation are mostly derived from negative TV and newspaper articles where youngsters are in trouble. Of course, the older folks have been predicting that “the world is going to hell in a handbasket” when speaking of the current crop of youngsters, since the beginning of time.

However, young Judson King, through his diligent actions to overturn a city code which prohibits keeping hedgehogs in the city limits, has, by his actions and perseverance, presented sufficient evidence that the human race shall continue quite nicely. Judson’s preparation of his speech, animal presentation and exhibits to the City Commission is evidence of his convincing attitude and perseverance which led to his ultimate victory, as depicted by the photo of Judson with his new pet hedgehog, “Little Luke.”

Judson, congratulations on your victory and continue in life with your “can-do” attitude. A special thanks to your parents for producing a young man of which we can all be proud.

Richard M. Hassur,
Lawrence
