Back room BCS

To the editor:

If I were a congressperson and wanted to introduce and pass the most popular law in American history, I would create legislation that would withdraw all federal funds from any university, public or private, who participates in the Division 1A football BCS bowl system. I truly believe it would be the only way that we the people will garner control of our own sport.

I tried to imagine what it would be like to be a Utah football player on a team that went undefeated and was not allowed by the big boys to compete in the championship game. I have tried to imagine what it must be like for young men who have dedicated themselves to the sport for 14 or 15 years to be the best of the best and not ever be given the opportunity to prove their worth on the field of play.

If greed is keeping our universities in this system, perhaps greed can get us out.

P.S. We can still keep the traditional bowls with all of their traditions; the only difference will be that the fat guys in some smoky back room will not decide who participates.
