Tech group to learn from business coach

A business coach who is helping a Lawrence technology business grow even bigger will share his expertise with other technology leaders and their guests during a meeting this month in Lawrence.

Steve Broome, of Peak Performance Associates, will address the Jan. 15 annual meeting of the Lawrence Technology Association. His topic: how to generate impact from innovation through implementation.

University researchers, technology entrepreneurs and others interested in converting their cutting-edge ideas into commercial successes can learn plenty from Broome, said Donna Johnson, an association director.

“You develop a prototype, a product, but how do you really get people to buy it?” said Johnson, president of Pinnacle Technology Inc., which hired Peak Performance to help with her own efforts. “It’s that whole dynamics of transitioning from, ‘I’ve got a great idea,’ or ‘I’ve got a great product,’ to letting the rest of the world know you’ve got a great product, now come and buy it.”

Last year, Johnson said, Pinnacle sales more than doubled as universities, research hospitals and pharmaceutical companies bought into the company’s devices that measure brain activity in mice and rats.

Pinnacle has 16 employees, up 60 percent, and Johnson hopes to add another eight this year as she seeks another triple-digit increase in sales.

The technology association’s annual meeting is set for 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Jan. 15 at Maceli’s, 1031 N.H. Cost is $25 for members, and $30 for guests.

To register, call Kerri Johnson at 832-2824 or e-mail events@lawrencetech.org by 5 p.m. Thursday.
