Hard to please
To the editor:
I read with a chuckle that the editors of the Journal-World are disappointed that Kansas University canceled this year’s Wheat State Tour. I chuckled because the thought that came to me was, “I bet if the university kept the Wheat State Tour, the LJW would have criticized them for spending money on it in this economic environment.” I’ve lived here less than five years, and it seems that the university has a difficult time pleasing the hometown newspaper, except in the sports arenas.
I’d like to suggest that, as of 2009, the World Company offer itself as the sponsor of the Wheat State Tour. This would be a great way to give back to the state, the university, and the new faculty, most of whom are likely to become subscription holders and consumers of your services.

Editor’s note: The Journal-World has offered in the past to help pay for the tour, as have others, but university officials said “no.”
