Immediate needs

• The Watkins Community Museum of History, 1047 Mass., needs a greeter for Wednesday and Friday afternoons from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteers are also needed to assist in cataloging the museum’s historic collection, as well as to help keep the building clean. If interested in any of these positions, contact Helen at 841-4106, or e-mail her at wcmhist@sunflower.com.

• Habitat ReStore, 800 Comet Lane, is looking for a volunteer recycling coordinator. Responsibilities will include finding the best price for metal, overseeing metal sorting and storage, and helping recruit more recycling volunteers. Call 856-692 for more information.

• Special Olympics is hosting The Polar Plunge, where brave souls will take a dip into the icy waters of Clinton Lake, at 11 a.m. Saturday. About 15 to 20 volunteers are needed to help out at the event with registration, setting up tents and a few other odd jobs. Contact Kelli at 316-648-2798 or kwurfel@mail.ku.edu to volunteer or participate.

• About 200 volunteers are sought for a disaster-relief training program next month. The Volunteer Reception Center Exercise on March 27 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds Building 21 is an event designed to practice screening volunteers in the event of a major disaster, which would require hundreds of volunteers to be screened, interviewed and referred to agencies needing assistance. Use this opportunity to register with Roger Hill Volunteer Center to be identified as a disaster relief volunteer! For more information contact Anna Foerster, Volunteers in Service to America, at vista@rhvc.org.
