Caron breaks Free State scoring record with 36

? Chantay Caron scored a school-record 36 points in Free State High’s 46-43 victory over Shawnee Mission West on Thursday night.

The previous record was 24 points by Lauren Kimball, according to coach Bryan Duncan.

“They were double and triple teaming her and she didn’t force any shots, which is the amazing thing,” Duncan said of Caron, a junior who scored 17 in the first half. “She took good shots.”

The Firebirds (10-8) will next meet Olathe Northwest on Tuesday. SM West fell to 14-4.
