Dead geese in creek prompt investigation

A Douglas County Sheriff’s deputy responded to an unusual call Tuesday.

The sheriff’s department received a call from someone reporting about two-dozen dead geese floating in a creek that feeds into the Wakarusa River. The creek is in the 1700 block of North 1250 Road, east of the Baker Wetlands.

Sgt. Steve Lewis said the sheriff’s department contacted the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks. Someone from the agency is expected to visit the creek today to investigate what caused such a large number of geese to die.
