LHS freshman wrestler wins title in overtime

? Lawrence High freshman Reece Wright-Conklin placed first in the 152-pound weight class of the Rose Hill Invitational on Saturday.

Wright-Conklin defeated Andale senior Willie Eck, 4-2, in overtime in the title match.

“Willie is a tough competitor, and his style is a little unique in that he’s able to fend off a lot of shots, and he does a lot of re-shots, where he waits for someone to shoot,” LHS coach Patrick Naughton said of Eck. “(Wright-Conklin) did a really good job against him.”

The Lions (78 points) finished the tournament in 12th place of 22 teams.

Blake Greenfield (140-pound weight class) placed third, while Dustin Walthall (131) placed fourth for the Lions.

Derby won the tournament with 155.5 points.
