Kansas City, Kan. ? A man has been sentenced to more than 48 years in prison for shooting a detective as she guarded a Kansas Speedway vault.

Fredrick Douglas was sentenced Friday for attempted capital murder, aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and attempted aggravated robbery.

The 68-year-old Kansas City, Kan., man was convicted in December of shooting off-duty Kansas City, Kan., Detective Susan Brown. She was working security for a NASCAR race.

Defense attorney Debera Erickson conceded during the trial that Douglas was at the scene of the Oct. 1, 2006, shooting. But Erickson argued that there was no evidence that Douglas and co-defendant Nolden Garner, of Grandview, Mo., went to the speedway with the intent to kill Brown.

Garner is scheduled to go on trial next month.
