Grass fire west of Lawrence damages outbuilding
Crews from Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical and six county townships responded to an out-of-control grass fire that broke out around 3:30 Monday just west of Lawrence.
An outbuilding south of the home at 1439 East 920 Road caught fire in the blaze.
“When we arrived there were about five acres of grass land and one structure that was fully involved,” said Duane Filkins, Kanawaka Township fire captain.
Law enforcement officials on the scene said one person who lived at the home suffered minor injuries while attempting to save belongings inside the structure. The resident refused treatment from Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical.
A damage estimate has not been determined.
