American Red Cross plans blood drive in January

The American Red Cross will host a blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. Jan. 7 at First Christian Church, 1000 Ky.

The drive is held in honor of National Blood Donor Month, which is in January. Bev Kerbs, donor recruitment representative for the Red Cross, said that blood donations are especially needed in the winter months, when the agency traditionally sees a dip in blood donations. Appointments are not necessary for the drive, but are suggested because people with appointments take priority over walk-ins.

Donors can give blood every 56 days, must be 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in general good health. For more information about donating, call 800-GIVE-LIFE, or visit www.bloodisneeded.org.
