No brakes

To the editor:

It now appears that the U.S. Senate will pass health care reform legislation requiring all U.S. citizens to purchase health insurance but will not provide a public option or Medicare buy-in option to provide downward competitive pressure on premium costs.

This is very much like designing a fancy new sports car but omitting the brakes. It looks great and may get you where you want to go — but it also increases the likelihood of a car wreck.
