Co-op volunteers help restore electricity
Bluestem Electric Cooperative, based in Wamego, recently had the daunting task of quickly and efficiently restoring power to more than 1,600 homes after a recent snow storm. Heavy, wet snow that reached upward of 10 inches in some areas brought down as many as 200 electric poles in Bluestem’s territory.
Thanks to an agreement among the electric cooperatives in the state of Kansas known as mutual aid, help was on its way by means of line crews from other cooperatives throughout the state, including Leavenworth-Jefferson Electric Cooperative.
Four LJEC crew members volunteered to assist Bluestem in its efforts to restore power. They were Jory Adkins of Tonganoxie, Jeremy Cameron of McLouth, Nolan Lewis of Tonganoxie and Brent Alverson of Winchester.
