Events throughout city celebrate Chanukah

The Chabad Jewish Center, 1203 W. 19th St., has planned several events this month in honor of the Jewish celebration of Chanukah.

A Chanukah story hour and olive press workshop will be at 7 p.m. today and 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt. Families can learn to squeeze and press olive oil at the event.

A menorah lighting is planned for 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Kansas Union, followed by a campuswide Chanukah celebration of Chanukah Bowl at the Jaybowl, which is on the first floor of the union.

In addition, a Grand Menorah lighting and Chanukah celebration is planned for 6 p.m. Sunday at the South Park Recreation Center, 1141 Mass. A six-foot Menorah carved out of ice — new to this year’s event — will be on display at this event.
