To the editor:

I have sat in silence as long as I can on the Mangino investigation. First, this was not started by the kids, nor are the players telling lies about what happened. I know some of these kids and know for a fact they wouldn’t lie. There are some people that will say they are getting a free education or that this is what happens at a D-1 school. So let me ask all of you this: How would you like to go to work every day and have your boss degrade you, belittle you, call you names and threaten to send you home?

This is what happens on the football field at KU. I just can’t imagine how people are behind Mangino on this. Remember, these are the same young men that go out on that field and get banged up, bruised and broken. Some people will say that not all the players are voicing an opinion. So let’s just remember that a college football coach holds the future of football in his hands for some of these kids.

So look past the fact that this is a college program and look at what really matters. The kids are the victims here, not Mangino. But as always in our society we tend to punish the victims in abusive matters and side with the abuser. It’s a shame that more people aren’t standing behind the football players. Well, I for one support the players 110 percent, and I hope there will soon be a new head coach at KU.
