Sad commentary

To the editor:

The front page of Friday’s Journal-World is the most appalling and obscene I have seen in decades, yet how realistically it represents today’s America. The greed of big business — in this case, represented by the Kansas University Athletic Department selling 40 press row seats for the 2009-2010 basketball season at $15,000 each — was juxtaposed against the tragic poverty of the homeless — in this case a pregnant mother, her husband, and two children under 4 years of age.

I hope those who bought the courtside seats at Allen Fieldhouse suffer some guilt thinking about how much good their $15,000 each could have done if contributed to a homeless shelter or to a charity or organization that attempts to find homes, clothing and jobs for those so very much less fortunate. I hope the Johnson family will soon be able to live a better life and become self-sufficient again.
