LHS upgrades

To the editor:

On behalf of the Lawrence High School football family, I wish to extend our sincere thanks to the entire Lawrence community. This is a very special time for all of us at Lawrence High School, and we could not be more pleased with our new stadium and field. This project reflects the outstanding support that our community gives to public education and reflects the many deeply rooted convictions that our community has.

“Thank you” does not come close to expressing the feelings we have for the USD 497 board of education, Superintendent Rick Doll, former Superintendent Randy Weseman and our neighbors who have worked with us to accommodate this project. We are very proud of the rich tradition that is present at any Lawrence High School activity. Many generations of local families are represented on our new fields and in the other major facility improvements already completed or to be completed soon. You have stepped up and made our school facility an even better place in which to mold the futures of Lawrence’s young people.

With 150 physical education students, 175 marching band members, 80 football players and 60 soccer players using our new football field on a daily basis, it will be a very busy place this fall. We invite the entire community to come out on Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. and join us for our home opener when we host Shawnee Mission North High School.
