Country club wins environmental honor

Lawrence Country Club, 400 Country Club Terrace, was named a 2009 Groundwater Guardian Green Site by the Groundwater Foundation in recognition of the site’s groundwater and environmental stewardship. This is the club’s second year of designation, under the leadership of Bill Irving, golf course superintendent.

The program began in 2007 to recognize good stewards of groundwater by encouraging managers of highly managed green spaces to implement, measure and document their groundwater-friendly practices.

Sites are encouraged to sign up to participate by calling 800-858-4844 or downloading an application at groundwater.org//gg/greensites.html, or by e-mailing guardian@groundwater.org.

The Groundwater Guardian Green Site program is supported by the Nebraska Environmental Trust, the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality and Cargill.
