No weapons. No rations. No wool uniforms in 90-degree heat.

The re-enactors aren’t coming.

Saturday’s scheduled day-long encampment of Civil War re-enactors in South Park — part of the 14th annual Civil War on the Western Frontier event — has been canceled.

Turns out the contemporary members of the old-time 4th Missouri Light Artillery and the 9th Texas couldn’t make the trip, said Debbie White, manager of the Lawrence Visitor Center.

“It’s disappointing, but things come up,” she said. “Maybe next year.”
