Red Dog Run to aid Boys and Girls Club

The fifth annual Boys and Girls Club Red Dog Run will take off at 8 a.m. Saturday.

Participants of all ages can choose to run 4 miles or walk 2 miles to benefit the before- and after-school program of Boys and Girls Club. The run will begin on the Kansas River levee behind Johnny’s Tavern.

Former Kansas University basketball player Darnell Jackson will be at the event this year to share his experiences as a Boys and Girls Club alum. Jackson will be at the run at 7:45 a.m. and will sign autographs from 9 a.m. to noon at Dillons, 4701 W. Sixth St. A $5 donation is suggested for autographs, and all proceeds will benefit the club.

Anyone interested in signing up for the Red Dog Run, named after Don “Red Dog” Gardner, can register at bgclawrence.com or stop by the Boys and Girls Club, 1520 Haskell Ave. Runners also can register the day of the event.
