Help at hand

As I viewed the paper recently, my attention was caught by the court cases, the crime and the misery so many people are experiencing. So I thought I would share this story that happened to me.

Recently, I was in a grocery store parking lot and fell hard on my knees. I had to have two knee replacements at an early age because of defective knees, and when I went down, I was scared.

Needless to say, I was befuddled on how I was going to get up with the inserts in my knees possibly dislocated and in so much pain. It was then I felt two hands on my waist and someone pulling me up. I looked around to find a complete stranger, a man in his 80s on a cane, sharing his strength with me. Together, we both made it to our destinations.

It is easy to forget that there are so many fine and helpful people in our town. I am on a handicapped permit, and this is not the first time that I have had a stranger come to ask if I needed help or offer assistance, but now seemed the time to share this story with others.
