County coalition marks breastfeeding week
The Greater Douglas County Breastfeeding Action Team is marking World Breastfeeding Week — today through Friday — with displays touting the environmental benefits.
For example, breastfeeding produces no environmental waste because the milk requires no packaging, heating or shipping.
The displays will be at Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt., and Lawrence Memorial Hospital, 325 Maine.
Also, the Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department will have a special party Thursday for participants enrolled in the Women, Infants and Children Supplemental Nutrition program. The health department also will be handing out information on breastfeeding.
The action team consists of members from the health department, LMH and La Leche League.
