City closes Burcham, Riverfront parks

The Kansas River at the Lecompton Bridge spreads out beneath the bridge well beyond the banks of the river Monday. The National Weather Service in Topeka issued a flood warning for the Kansas River at Lecompton Monday. The warning is effect until Tuesday evening.

High water on the Kansas River led the city to close Burcham and Riverfront parks at 6 p.m. Monday.

The river is running high after the weekend’s rain. The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for the Kansas River at Lecompton, where the river was expected to reach flood stage by 1 a.m. today.

The city of Lawrence will monitor the river level and adjust park hours further as necessary in the coming days.
