Preservation group to present awards
The Lawrence Preservation Alliance will conduct its annual preservation award ceremony from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. May 7 at the newly renovated Castle Tea Room, 1307 Mass.
The event, which is open to the public, costs $30 for members and $40 for nonmembers. It is the first public event at the building since being renovated.
The LPA has selected these recipients:
• Carolyn Berneking for successfully nominating seven properties in Douglas County to the National Register of Historic Places, including Kansas University’s Bailey and Strong halls.
• Libuse Kriz-Fiorito Historical Foundation for the rehabilitation of the Castle Tearoom. Kriz-Fiorito owned the property before her death.
• Lance Burr for renovating several historical properties.
LPA was incorporated in 1984 and has about 200 members. For more information, visit lawrencepreservation.org.
