The annual Independence Inc. Community Access and Roger Williams awards will be presented May 6.
The award ceremony will take place at 5:30 p.m. at Independence Inc., 2001 Haskell Ave. The open house begins at 4 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
The recipient of the 2009 Roger Williams Award is Jay Turnbull. Turnbull, who died in January, will be honored for his 20-year commitment to The Beach Center on Disability at Kansas University.
The winners of the 2009 Community Access Awards are:
• Mistie Copas-Thomas, C-Tran social worker.
• Jannah Laing, owner of Ultimate Tan.
• Paul Buskirk, associate director of KU Athletics Student Services.
• Wakarusa Township Fire Department.
• Kansas Accessible Sports.
