To the editor:

Our nation will not be destroyed by terrorists, but it can be destroyed by our fear of terrorists. One of the most hideous manifestations of this fear is the belief that the means justify the end as it relates to torture. Growing up, I never thought I would hear American citizens promoting this barbaric practice. Our young men and women died during the Second World War to preserve our freedom and save our and other nations from rulers who would torture, maim and kill.

In the America I know, love and respect, there is no middle ground on this issue. I do not believe it is possible to bridge the gap between those who promote the use of torture and those who do not. I do believe that if we ever again allow the fearmongers to resume power, this nation will be destroyed from within.
