To the editor:
Being a conservative pundit must be hard work. Besides pontificating on things moral and religious (like wearing jeans), he must maintain old hatreds and prejudices. Faced with the necessity to keep their fans fed with fresh fears once or twice a week, self-proclaimed experts like George Will cite academic journals which prove that they are the sole possessors of the truth, change is bad, and that the liberal sky is falling. If only Reagan were back in office!
Mr. Will, however, might want to bone up a bit on his Russian history (“Figures tell story of shrinking Russia,” Journal-World, April 19). The demographic statistics are indeed frightening, but the Russians have seen much worse. Who knows, they might be able to teach us Americans a thing or two about surviving tough times.
