Free State swimming falls to SME

Juniors Heather Clark and Morgan Flannigan and sophomore Chloe Portela each won two individual events, but it wasn’t enough Tuesday for Free State to win a home swim meet against Shawnee Mission East.

Swimming without senior Molly Albrecht, who was visiting her future school, Yale, Free State lost, 96-90.

Flannigan won the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.29) and the 500 free (5:12.22) and swam legs for two victorious relays, the 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle.

Clark swam a leg of both of the Firebirds’ victorious relays and won the 200 individual medley (2:14.62) and 100 free (55.57).

Portela won the 100 butterfly (59.11) and 100 backstroke (1:03.03). She also was part of the winning 200 medley relay.

Dianna Torgerson was Free State’s highest-placing diver, finishing fourth with a score of 163.00.
