A new sidewalk will stretch for a half-mile in East Lawrence, the first of nine such projects to share in $235,801 of financing through the federal Community Development Block Grant program.

Construction started this week for a sidewalk along the south side of 15th Street, from Haskell Avenue to Harper Street. The $32,265 construction job is expected to last for two weeks.

Other locations to get sidewalk work in the coming months:

• Haskell, from 15th to 23rd streets.

• Second Street, from Wisconsin to Michigan streets.

• Along Seventh Street and around the corner to New Jersey Street, near Van Go Mobile Arts.

• Utah Street, from Louisiana to Oklahoma streets.

• Dakota Street, from Louisiana to Ohio streets.

• Haskell, from 12th to 15th streets.

• North Fifth Street, between Walnut and Elm streets.

• North Seventh Street, between Walnut and Elm.
