Unfair to teens

To the editor:

I love being a teenager, but sometimes it’s a challenge in Lawrence. I am writing this letter because something has been on my mind. Teens normally hang out around the downtown area, but now stores have posted signs discouraging teens’ business. I understand that some teens steal, break the rules or interrupt the store, but not all of us are about that.

I believe that when a teen is misbehaving they should be banned from the store or stores instead of punishing everyone. It’s not fun being watched the whole time you’re in a store because the workers assume you’re stealing. If downtown is turning into an area for adults only, then the city and business leaders should provide more activities that aren’t costly for teens to do.
