Sour grapes?

To the editor:

Yep, the writer of the last Saturday Column is spot on, that “many readers probably think this writer (publisher Simons Jr.) has written too much on the chancellor situation,” whatever that is. Mr. Simons appears to be having a very serious sampling problem again. He is unaware of the many faculty, staff, students, alumni and Lawrence citizens who are quite satisfied with the chancellor search process, are confident in the committee’s competence and are eager and hopeful to hear the outcome. Simons’ arrogant questioning of the competence of the search committee, the search firm, the Board of Regents, and even the University of Oregon for hiring Richard Lariviere seems unwarranted at best. Guess that leaves only Simons with any competence.

Appears as if Mr. Simons has been eating lots of sour grapes. He’s obviously got a problem with the chancellor, probably related to the chancellor’s disregard of his opinions. He’s got some major problems with the athletic department, probably because they don’t give a hoot about his opinions. Sure would be nice if Mr. Simons could spit out the sour grapes and take a more positive and supportive stance. I get the feeling that Mr. Simons’ nose is bent out of shape because he was not asked to be on the search committee. Must be difficult to be ignored.
