Fatal crash causes major power failure in Eudora

A vehicle crash into a power pole near Olathe on Tuesday night killed the driver and knocked out power in many areas of Eudora.

Police officers, firefighters and paramedics responded to the crash around 7 p.m. Tuesday near 127th Street and Hedge Lane, according to a report from the Olathe police and fire departments.

The car had crashed into a power pole and was engulfed in flames when emergency crews arrived.

The motorist was pronounced dead at the scene. Police declined to release the identification of the driver pending notification of family.

Nathan Jones, electrical foreman for the city of Eudora, said the town was without power for up to an hour.

Just before 10 p.m., parts of Olathe were still without power, according to Westar reports.
