Organ, tissue donations focus of LMH event
Lawrence Memorial Hospital is hosting an event to raise awareness about organ and tissue donations as part of National Donate Life Month.
The event will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday in the atrium at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, 325 Maine.
Merle Zuel, 45, a heart recipient, will be the keynote speaker. Zuel received his new heart in February 2007 and has become an ambassador for the Midwest Transplant Network. Zuel recently won a national essay contest about how the transplant changed his life.
Midwest Transplant Network will have a Donor Family Memorial Quilt on display. The quilt is dedicated to the memory of people who have given gifts of life through organ, tissue and eye donations.
Also, representatives from Midwest Transplant Network and LMH will be available to answer questions about organ and tissue donations.
