Professor chosen as arts associate dean

Elizabeth Kowalchuk, a Kansas University associate professor in the visual art education program, will assume the role of associate dean for the new School of Arts at KU.

The school will be housed in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and will include a department of visual art — including drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture, among other programs — and a department of dance.

The changes are part of a reorganization of the university’s School of Fine Arts, and will take effect July 1 — the same day Kowalchuk is scheduled to begin in her new position.

Kowalchuk was a Lawrence arts commissioner and was on the board of the Kansas Art Education Association. She is active in campus affairs, serving on the Public Art on Campus Committee and the Senate Executive Committee. This year, Kowalchuk is president-elect of University Senate.
