Kassebaum Baker to speak at memorial

Former U.S. Sen. Nancy Kassebaum Baker will be among the speakers at a memorial service for former Sen. James B. Pearson at 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Baldwin City.

Pearson, a part-time resident of Baldwin City, died Jan. 13 at age 88. Pearson served from 1962 until 1978 in the Senate, and Kassebaum Baker was appointed to replace him when he retired. She served until 1997.

Pearson served on the Baker University Board of Trustees, and President Emeritus Daniel M. Lambert will also speak at the memorial. Others scheduled to speak are James B. Pearson Jr. and David Seaton, Pearson’s former press secretary.
