Work day set to clear Baker Wetlands

The Sierra Club Wakarusa Group is organizing a Baker Wetlands Work Day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 11. Volunteers will remove and treat invasive honeysuckle that is overtaking native plants.

¢ Ballard Community Services is looking for volunteers to organize a food drive for the Penn House and asks for food donations to be brought to 1035 Pa.

¢ Kids Voting is looking for volunteers to staff numerous polling stations within Douglas County. Volunteers will work in shifts on Election Day, Nov. 4, to help young people place their vote and count ballots. There will be an informational meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 30.

¢ AARP is looking for tax counselors for the elderly. Volunteers should have enough basic tax knowledge to prepare their own tax returns. Returns will be filed electronically. Basic computer skills are required.

¢ The Boys and Girls Club needs 60 volunteers to serve as mentors with its afterschool program, Priceless Pals.
