Intersections where roundabouts are in various stages of planning for construction in Lawrence, according to Chuck Soules, the city’s director of public works, and Rex Fleming, project engineer for the Kansas Turnpike Authority:

¢ 25th Street and O’Connell Road – Under construction, just up O’Connell from an existing roundabout at 28th Street. Set to open by the end of 2008.

¢ The turnpike’s West Lawrence interchange – Under construction, for traffic exiting from the east and getting onto the turnpike to go west at exit 202. Set to open by end of year.

¢ Stoneridge and Overland drives – Will be installed as the roads are extended in northwest Lawrence. Set to open in summer 2009.

¢ Turnpike’s East Lawrence interchange – Will be installed for ramps on the north side of the turnpike, as the interchange at exit 204 is rebuilt. Set to open in fall 2010.

¢ Queens Road and Overland Drive – Tentatively planned for installation when Overland Drive is extended and Queens Road is upgraded. Possible in 2011.

¢ 31st Street and O’Connell Road – Being considered for installation once 31st street is extended east from area near Mary’s Lake. “That’s far in the future,” Soules said.
