Another party?

To the editor:

Have we all had enough spin? I just cannot ignore Leonard Pitts’ column published Thursday. Sounded a lot like spin to me. If one does not vote for Senator Obama, they must be racist. There has been a media theme along that line for the past week. Usually it is focused on elements of the Democratic Party. I certainly cannot say Pitts is wrong but could there be an alternate causality.

During his pursuit of the nomination, Obama expressed a clear disdain for the Bible-toting, gun-loving, xenophobic folk. He later disavowed that statement. Did his clarification actually work? The very people within the Democratic Party who might fit that description are those who seem to be reluctant to vote for him. Perhaps they have a reason other than race.

Obama was supposedly addressing elite members of his party when he made his statement. Could the elites in the Democratic Party be ill at ease with the many Americans who believe in God, love their country and believe in the rule of law? Are they any different from the leaders of the Republican Party who would reduce those same Americans to economic slavery under the guise of a “free” market and “global competition”?

We need another party!
