A 2007 ridership survey gives a glimpse at who rides the city’s fixed-route bus system, the T.
¢ 48 percent are people 18 to 34 years old.
¢ 55 percent are white, 16 percent are black.
¢ 53 percent are male.
¢ 46 percent of riders said they had a household income of less than $15,000 per year; 24 percent said they had an income between $15,000 and $24,999.
¢ 78 percent of riders said they didn’t have a vehicle available to them when making this particular trip.
¢ 40 percent of riders said they primarily use public transit to get to work. Fifteen percent said they primarily use the bus to get to school. Other primary reasons included 13 percent shopping, 9 percent personal business, and 8 percent medical care.
¢ 35 percent said if public transit were no longer available, they would walk, 23 percent said they would ride with someone else, 19 percent would not make the trip, 9 percent would drive, 9 percent would ride a bike, and 5 percent would use a taxi.
