Wild charges

To the editor:

Ho-hum!

Another tiresome editorial cheerleading the Bush administration, and throwing stones at Democrats. Your Sept. 13 Saturday Column assumes we have had eight glorious years of fine leadership from George W. Bush.

You charge Democrats with making “wild charges” that are “nothing but partisan, political talk” with “bitterness and hatred of Bush” and “meanness and unfairness.”

Is it wild charges to point out that the Bush administration has:

¢ turned a budget surplus into the largest deficit in U.S. history;

¢ led us into war against a country that did not attack us while neglecting the fight where the perpetrators of the 9/11 attack were trained and hiding;

¢ lowered the image and effectiveness of America abroad;

¢ given huge tax breaks to the wealthy;

¢ denied the reality of climate change for seven years;

¢ resisted reasonable oversight of the financial industry, thus compounding the present financial crisis;

¢ avoided bringing health insurance to 46 million Americans who have none;

¢ pandered to the right wing of their party at the expense of the American people;

¢ and, much more.

Is pointing out such failures “partisan, political talk”? Is it “meanness and unfairness” to expect more from our leaders?

It’s time to turn away from this failed presidency. It’s time to give the Democrats the opportunity to provide the leadership which has been sorely lacking these past eight years.
