Take a ride
To the editor:
Our city commissioners, as individuals, promised to support the upcoming vote for a sales tax to support public transit, which includes paratransit. A friend, who moved here from Boston, remarked that she often saw prominent elected officials using the buses there. Perhaps this will not become a regular happening here, but the commissioners could show their support by scheduling a planned ride.
Wouldn’t this be an easy, inexpensive way to get to know your mayor and commissioners? If we knew a specific date, time and route when commissioners were to ride the bus we would have a short opportunity to chat with them. Cheaper and more fun than a “breakfast” meeting!
If everyone in Lawrence rode the bus once, or one more time, this month, there would be an additional $40,000 to $80,000 extra income for the system during the month. With the price of gas, most of us would be saving ourselves money also.
