Early learning

To the editor:

The Legislative Division of Post Audit’s recent report may cause us to rethink economic development spending. While early childhood development programs are rarely portrayed as economic development initiatives, long-term studies cited by the Federal Reserve show that every $1 invested in quality early learning programs reaps a $4 to $7 return to communities.

Bolstering our community’s offerings will allow more parents to remain productive members of the work force. It will also provide our youngest children with the foundation they need to succeed in life and ensure that we have an outstanding work force in the future.
