Youth volunteers needed for garage sale

The Youth Volunteer Council needs volunteers ages 11 to 18 to assist with the Meals on Wheels Garage Sale from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at AAPS Storage, 2400 Franklin Road.

Immediate needs:

¢ Visions for Tomorrow is looking for two volunteers to work with special needs children while caregivers attend a VFT class.

The volunteers will work under the guidance of a group leader to provide the children with supervision and activities. Volunteers must commit to eight weeks from Sept. 24 to Nov. 12 for two hours a week from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesdays.

¢ AARP is looking for tax counselors for the elderly. Volunteers should have enough basic tax knowledge to prepare their own tax returns. Returns will be filed electronically. Basic computer skills are required. Contact Jack Connelly at connjac@aol.com or 865-3985.

¢ Meals On Wheels currently has openings for six to eight regular volunteer drivers.

Drivers deliver meals one day a week, to no more than six Lawrence residents. The whole process takes an hour or less. Twenty substitute drivers are also needed to cover regular drivers when they need a day off; substitutes can drive daily, once a week or once a month. Volunteers must be 18 years old or accompanied by an adult and have a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance. For more information call 830-8844.

¢ Lawrence Memorial Hospital is looking for customer service-oriented, energetic people to be a part of a caring team of health-care providers.

Volunteers give a three to six month commitment for three to four hours a week to provide service to patients, visitors, fellow volunteers and staff members. Contact Allyson Leland for more information at allyson.leland@lmh.org.

¢ The Salvation Army needs three to four food pantry/cafeteria assistants year-round from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to help prepare, serve and clean up for the lunch program, or assist with the food pantry and distribution.
