KTKA, KANU win broadcast awards

The Kansas Association of Broadcasters has chosen KTKA, Topeka, as Station of the Year in the medium-market television category, and KANU, Lawrence, as Station of the Year in the noncommercial radio category.

KTKA, owned by The World Company, which also owns the Journal-World, also won the Tony Jewell Community Service Award.

In addition, the station took first place in weathercast, commercial series and any-length commercial; first, second and third place for in-depth news reporting; first and second place for station promotion campaign; second place for prime newscast, A.M./noon newscast, special program and station promotion announcement; and third place for news feature story and sportscast.

KANU, Kansas Public Radio, won first-place awards for station promotion announcement, public affairs program and complete severe weather coverage; first and second place for complete newscast and complete news feature; second place for editorial/commentary; and third place for DJ personality aircheck.

KLWN radio, Lawrence, won awards in the medium-market radio category, including first place for sports play-by-play, second place for public service announcement and complete sportscast, and second and third place for editorial/commentary.
