Stupid stand

To the editor:

Though considering the Lawrence Journal-World’s past record of knee-jerk right-wing presidential endorsements, this week’s endorsement of John McCain and Sarah Palin is not surprising, it is supremely disappointing and well, stupid.

That’s right, I said it, STUPID!

Since when is a command of the English language a liability and not to be trusted, as you continuously insinuate about Obama? Since when is experience (that you proclaim on behalf of McCain) that results in weakening the greatest county on Earth beyond recognition an asset?

The strongest argument you can raise for a Republican administration now is the fear of raising taxes. But when it comes to spending money we don’t have, fiscal conservatism vanishes. Where’s your conservatism now?

All you seem concerned about is preserving the status quo of the past eight years, in the name of preserving “the American way,” a loaded phrase if ever I heard one.

Most of the rest of our population in Lawrence, Kansas, has the wit to make these distinctions, but not our own newspaper, who keeps on flying in the face of its own readership and bites the hand that feeds it.

You were wrong when you called for the impeachment of Bill Clinton (an expensive distraction for the country); you were wrong when you endorsed (twice!) that fool George W. Bush for president with all those corrupt henchmen that worked through him behind the scenes; and you are definitely wrong now!

I am ashamed of you.

Sally F. Piller,
Lawrence
