State issues

To the editor:

No one can deny that the presidential election is exciting. It has attracted 3.5 million new voters, according to an Associated Press poll. Because of the economic crisis, many Americans are concerned about how their future president and U.S. congresspeople are going to shape our economy.

We still need to remember that our state senators and representatives also play a role in the Kansas economy. State officials determine the fuel efficiency, minimum wage (which is currently $2.65, the lowest of all 50 states) and accessibility of health insurance for the state of Kansas. When we turn our attention to national politics, we need to remember that the future of Kansas depends on us and the candidates we support.
