Free State soccer falls to Washburn Rural, 3-1

? The Free State High boys soccer team lost, 3-1, at Washburn Rural on Thursday in the regional finals.

The Firebirds gave up a goal in the first half and were down, 1-0, at the half. The score remained 1-0 until four minutes remaining when Washburn Rural scored again. Free State immediately responded when Daniel Chance scored off an assist from Brock Norwood to make it 2-1. Free State pushed everyone forward in an effort to get an equalizer, and Rural capitalized with a counter-attack goal.

Rural improved to 16-2. Free State finished the season 7-6-5. Norwood, Dale Shillington, Parker Liebl and Tyler Hatesohl played in their final game in Free State uniforms.
