Local optometrist becomes fellow

The College of Optometrists in Vision Development certified Dr. Elizabeth Crandon of Crandon & Crandon, 1019 Mass., as a fellow of the college at the association’s annual meeting in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

Crandon was one of 11 optometrists awarded fellow status by the COVD board of directors in 2008.

The COVD fellow certification process serves to identify doctors of optometry who are prepared to offer state-of-the-art clinical services in behavioral and developmental vision care, vision therapy and vision rehabilitation.

To become a fellow, optometrists must have practiced for at least three years, and complete a fellowship education program, a written examination and an oral interview. They must also obtain a minimum of 10 hours of continuing education annually.

The COVD is a professional membership association of optometrists, vision therapists and optometry students.
